Blogging for my creative side! :D

This week’s art project was to make our trash into some type of project. I brought a bag of chips, two juice boxes, a lot of gum wrappers along with the gum box, a sandwich box, and little trash here and there. From there on I just started taping my trash together and at the end of the day I have no idea what I did. Yet, the purpose of this project was to realize how much trash an individual goes through from writing a paper to eating a sandwich.  Trash can be made into beautiful art and show how much trash a person goes through without thinking about it. Everyone’s trash projects were amazing and I did not think that someone could make a beautiful project out of trash.

Day 3 of Fieldwork

Yesterday was my last day at El Sol Academy and I had the joy to work with Kevin again because I really liked his poems. He was working on a poem about a volcano and exploding body parts. I noticed that he likes getting approval for his work because he at least read the poem to me three times and asked me if I liked it. After I told him that I did, he got up to get the approval from Sue. In the next class I sat down next to a little boy all of sudden he started crumpling up the paper that had everyone’s poems. I asked him what was wrong and he said he was upset because he did not see his poem on the paper. I told him that it was okay and not to be upset. He started ripping up the pages and I had no idea what to do so I asked him to give me back the papers but he would not. The teacher noticed that I was struggling with him and came along to help him calm down, but the teacher then asked me to switch with another volunteer. So I did and started helping the little girls collect their words so they could work on their poems.

For this week we learned a little bit about theatre. Right from the start I was a bit nervous in what we had to perform because I do not like other people looking at me. We had to use our bodies to illustrate what we wanted to say from the pictures above. My group and I decided to demonstrate the people who were harvesting. We started with our bodies being frozen and then proceeded with demonstrating how hard these people are working at harvesting. After that we had to perform a creative tension that was shown when we attended fieldwork. My group decided to perform one of mine creative tensions because it was about a boy writing about having a broken heart. I had a lot of fun performing the girl who declined the little boy and I made a couple of classmates laugh. :D Overall, I thought I was going to have an issue performing but once it came to it I totally forgot about being shy and went along plays a character and that was a lot of fun.

So today we had the opportunity to use our bodies again in a way that we would be able to teach a class. The exercises that we used are useful in the terms that it will get the kids in an active mood and then ready to focus on an assignment once they have had their blood pumping to their brain. We ran in circles, jumped, skipped, leaped, crawled I never thought I was gonna do so much activity in one course. Not only are these skills useful to use in terms of calming down the class or waking them up but it also the students get their physical activity of the day. In the picture above we had to connect with our partners without using our hands. In other terms my partner and I connected by touching our feet, then our elbows and lastly our arms, but the challenge was to handle each other’s weight. It was really fun seeing each other’s different connected points. I discovered that I could do a lot with my body because I always thought of myself as a stiff board, who could not follow any choreography or move my feet in the way that I did today when we did the grape vine. I believe I would use this in a classroom setting because students will learn to use their bodies and understand their bodies.

So as a fun activity the class had to try different positions like the ones that are displayed above. There at least 10 different positions and I tried all of them but I liked these ones the most. I felt that I connected more to them and they were pretty easy to perform. It was fun to perform these because it did not cross my mind that it was impossible for me to perform me, but just the fact that I had to do it and that it was gonna be fun. We had to perform them with the groups that we were indicated to do it. I was not shy or anything to do this because usually I am afraid that people will judge me. After performing them individually we had to partner up with another person and perform their dance also. It was really fun combining my dance with my partner’s dance because I was able to use my body more and just have fun. These three positions were really easy to perform but I connected with them because the first one is about relaxation and that is something I really needed after a hell week of midterms. The second positions has the football celebrating a touchdown and in a way you can say I was celebrating the ending of midterm week. Lastly, the third position has the tennis player happily celebrating a victory and that was a feeling I wish I had when i was done with midterms hoping I did well.

As we turned in our midterms, the professor provided us with a class in meditation. In my case it really helped me relax because I have been having a long stressful week full of midterms. It was something new and interesting to do because I am always on the go and active and I do not give myself the time to relax. My way to release some stress is going to the gym and taking my kickboxing class, which implies the active life of mine and no time to take a long breather. We tried out different positions that made our bodies work out, but at the same time it was relaxing. It was a great way to start off the class because later on into the class we were gonna be dancing and using our whole bodies. I have to say that the meditation really did calm me down to the point where I was about to fall asleep. On the other hand, I had a lot of fun using my body for the dance moves that we learned that day. I never really thought of having the opportunity to use my body for different types of dancing moves.
